Overview of Academic Research

Prof. Ning’s research interest is the systematic study of negative ions, for resolving the outstanding challenges in laser cooling of negative ions, structures and dynamics of negative ions, and reaction dynamics.

His major achievements include:

* ‌Construction of a high-resolution photoelectron spectrometer based on the cryogenically cold ion trap and velocity map imaging.

* ‌Precision measurement of electron affinities and electronic structures of atomic anions for more than 30 elements, and found that Th- is the best candidate for laser cooling of negative ions.

*Probing chemical reaction dynamics via photodetachment of negative ions.
