Overview of Academic Research

Prof. Xingan Wang’s research interest is the systematic experimental study on quantum-state-resolved molecular reaction dynamics, focusing on high-resolution molecular beam scattering experiments. His work aims to reveal the mechanisms of elementary chemical reactions and the dynamics of intermolecular interactions at the atomic and molecular scale with quantum state resolution.

His major achievements include:

* Developed state-of-the-art techniques in molecular scattering experiments. Taking the lead in measuring state-to-state differential cross sections with very high angular resolution using the near threshold ionization scheme together with the time sliced velocity map ion imaging technique.

*Systematically carried out experimental studies on state-to-state reaction dynamics in the gas phase from which the microscopic reaction mechanism can be derived. For instance, the forward scattering oscillations have been observed in H+HD chemical reaction.

*Breakthroughs have been made for a longstanding question: the geometric phase effect in a chemical reaction. Progress has been made in the study of the quantum interference of spin-orbit split partial waves in the F+HD reaction from which the influence of electron angular momentum was identified.
