Overview of Academic Research

Prof. Wang’s research interest is the systematic study on quantum communication or quantum key distribution (QKD), for resolving the outstanding challenges in high-speed and stable encoding of quantum states, ultra-long-distance quantum state transmission, and high-speed and low-error single-photon detection.

His major achievements include:

* ‌Proposed NPP twin-field protocol, and demonstrated the first fiber-based QKD experiment to overcome the PLOB bound.

* Developed independent laser interferometry techniques to overcome channel loss, and demonstrated a world-record 833 km fiber experiment.

* Developed stable and low-crosstalk devices to reduce correlation between high-speed signals, and significantly improve the speed of practical quantum communication systems.

* Designed self-stabilizing solutions to combat interference in complex application environments, enabling practical deployment of quantum communication in industries such as power grids and customs inspection.
